Hey everyone!
I want to start off with thanking all Veterans for their dedication towards their country. Remembrance Day is one we should respect and honestly remember those who gave up their lives for our current Freedom.
My week was pretty insane at times and yet relaxing at times.
So I ended up hitting Future shop to get something that was being offered, and one deal you just couldn’t ever imagine. I thought I’d get there ten minutes before the store opens. I mean really? How many people could possibly be there in the line-up right? Wrong… The image below speaks all words for me.
I would say that there were about 500-600 people in line and about 25-30% of them stood for nothing.
I remember seeing a guy so dedicated, that he brought his new born baby in a stroller and sat there waiting in the line!
Stock ran out within an hour and even sooner at other locations. So my weekend went somewhat wasted, but it’s good to see that people are so dedicated to line up and wait for something.
Now on to the real fun stuff with class!
In about two weeks all of my finals will take off one after another. That basically means lots of studying, reviewing and research papers that need to be handed in. Our law research paper for FSCT 7001 isn’t that bad, and actually really lets you analyze a real world crime. You get to in some sense act as the judge and review what type of crime/sentence the criminal will be given.
In FSCT 8512, we looked at email scams/fraud and how one can be aware of all types of scam emails. Just last week I got an email “supposedly” from the BCIT Technical Services stating my account was suspended, and that I should click on the link to recover my account. In reality, it was a “phishing” scam, which is where someone tries to trick you into giving you their information regarding some website. So in this case the scammer wanted to gain my BCIT user id and password, so they could steal my account.
Although, I have no idea why you would want to steal a student’s account? Does the scammer want to pay off my tuition fees for next semester? If so, I’ll gladly give my details ASAP! I can see the headlines now…. Scammer hacks students account and pays off all tuition fees! Such a considerate scammer don’t ya think?
So if you happen to get odd emails that don’t really make any sense. My advice is to QUESTION it and react slowly rather than freaking out and doing as the email says. And lastly, you should always visit a website directly through your web browser rather than relying on a link within an email address.
Well that’s all I got for this week.
Stay tuned for more!
Harry.
